Fashion Pack

It was night and suddenly I felt like dancing.
I took a cab to show me to the disco scene.

He said: "O.k., you wanna see those crazy people, hustling at the door to get into Studio 54?!"

When I was in, everybody was travolting!
The fashion queens, the models and the movie stars.
Andy snapping, Margeaux dancing with Scavullo. Liza dancing on the floor and Bianca walking through the door.

Who is In?
Who is out?
Tell me, tell me, tell me!

Who is in?
Who is out?
Famous and trendy?!

"In-People" always have to smile in "Vogue".
They only travel by Concorde.
Doing things YOU can´t afford!

They are the fashion pack. The people you see in the magazines.
They are the fashion pack. They are always smiling in their limousines.

They only come out after dark, got to keep on their trendy tracks.
They are the fashion pack.

Rockstars sniffing, while Marisa is posing.
Bianca counting her paintings, the models of Zoli´s flirting...

Hey! what's your name?
Didn't I see you in "Interview" last month, or was it the "Ritz"?
Gee, You're so famous!
May I have your autograph?
Thanks! I will keep it forever!!!

Abstract Raquel

Raquel Welsh a true Stellavista Ultramodel goes far out in this abstract dance from her 1970s TV special. Hard to say what´s more amazing: The Ruta de la Amistad sculptures from the Mexico City Olympics, the music or the outlandish dance routines.

Christmas with Claudine Longet

Get your insulin ready for this: StellaVista Ultramodel Claudine Longet and her husband at the time Andy Williams (who would survive his marriage to Claudine. His successor would not be so lucky.

Here they are pimping their kids for a performance of "Silent Night" and "Mary´s Boy Child". Creepy in it´s sugary broth.

I am still looking for her version of "Bang Bang, my baby shot me down", which was allegedly banned for obvious reasons.

UPDATE: A commenter informed me that the "Bang Bang"-story is a fantasy rumour and that she never recorded a version of this particular song. Too bad: It would have been a great rendition even without the bleak story behind it.

A vast collection of b/w photos showing the international impact the mini skirt (and other fashion trends of the late 60s and early 70s) had on the look of models, actresses, hookers and everybody else.

"Why are the nicer people not as successful as the shitty people?"

I always liked "Star Test" because of the "Dark Star"-sci-fi voice and the ridiculous concept. Here is the chance to watch a complete edition of the show with the great, undervalued and misunderstood Danielle Dax.

She might look a bit like Sandra here, but she is lovable, intelligent, witty, reads Tama Jamowitz, adores J.G. Ballard and hates Televangelists. What more do you want from a perfect pop-star?

Watch part two and three.

Dax recorded a string of incredibly strange records on her own "Awesome Records Label" in the mid eighties pre-dating trip-hop by ten years. I always think that she was wrongly labelled as "Goth", although she did come across as a one-woman Siouxsie Sioux at times, her music lives in its own universe of banghra-country-disco-folk with a heavy pop appeal.

After an attempt to break out of the underground she seemed to have retired from the music-biz with the release of a best-of album, aptly titled "Comatose Non-Reaction - The thwarted pop career of Danielle Dax".
She does have a sloppily maintained MySpace site, and her
Wikipedia claims that she recently suffered from ill health. So here is hope that this StellaVista Ultramodel will get better soon.

Meanwhile listen to the hauntingly minimalistic The Spoil Factor from the "Jesus Egg That Wept"-EP.

Goddess

I don´t know a thing about cars but I noticed that I automatically click "save image as" as soon as I see a nice pic of the Citroen DS. Obviously, there are countless great photos of the DS (La Déesse - The Goddess) since it is quite hard to shoot a bad picture of this iconoclastic car. A true StellaVista Ultramodel!

Darc Helicopter

Mireille Darc is one of the most iconic French actresses and models of the 60s and 70s. She always appeared to be incredibly mysterious and funny to me. The amazing backless dress she wore in "Le grande blonde avec une chaussure noire" caused gasps in audiences worldwide and turned her into a sexy icon of European cinema.

Despite living a very public and glitzy life as the partner of Alain Delon for 15 years, she never fell prey to the tabloids and kept an aura of dignity and sophistication.

There must have been a clause in every contract for French actresses to record at least one record with chansons by Serge Gainsbourg.
Her rendition of Helicoptere is certainly not my favourite song but hearing Mireille Darc sadly sing the words "dans mon helicoptere" is very haunting and evocative.

In France, Mireille Darc is still celebrated as a French icon and was awarded the prestigious Légion d´honneure-award in 2006. I hereby declare her a StellaVista Ultramodel.

Madame Darc also has a (somehow oldfashioned) Site officel.
